A gyroplane, also known as a gyrocopter, combines the agility of a helicopter with the simplicity of an airplane. Unlike a helicopter, the rotor on a gyroplane is not powered by the engine — it spins freely in the airflow, creating lift. A single engine at the rear drives a pusher propeller, which provides forward thrust. This design makes gyroplanes incredibly stable, safe, and fun to fly.
Not at all. Every flight is a lesson with a certified flight instructor. You’ll be introduced to the controls and get to fly the aircraft at your comfort level — no experience required.
Yes. Gyroplanes are widely regarded as one of the safest types of aircraft in the sky. Their unique design means they can’t stall like airplanes, and they remain stable even at low speeds. The unpowered rotor continues to spin and generate lift even if the engine fails, allowing for safe and controlled landings. All flights are conducted with a certified flight instructor in a dual-control aircraft, and your safety is always our top priority.
Yes! You'll be on the controls with your instructor throughout the flight. Your instructor will demonstrate how a gyroplane flies, then guide you through basic maneuvers as you follow along. All of our gyroplanes have dual controls, so your instructor can assist at any time to keep everything safe and smooth.
Dress comfortably for the conditions. If you're flying in our open-cockpit gyroplane, we recommend a long-sleeve shirt or light jacket, as it can be cooler with the airflow. Sunglasses are also helpful. We provide a headset and all necessary safety gear.
For safety reasons, phones, cameras, and other loose items must be left on the ground. Anything that falls out of the aircraft can damage the propeller — and we’d be making an off-field landing 😉.
Hats and sunglasses are fine.
We offer high-quality video packages, so you can relax and enjoy the flight while still capturing the moment.
We offer flight lessons ranging from 30 minutes to 1 hour in the air. Each session includes a briefing, flight time, and post-flight debrief.
No — all flights are conducted as lessons with a certified flight instructor. While you’ll enjoy incredible views, your flight will always be structured as instructional and hands-on.

Private Pilot - Big Island, HI
Absolutely incredible! I've never even been in a small aircraft before, but Caylon made me feel totally safe and confident. I got to take the controls over the Kona coastline - unreal. Easily the highlight of my trip to Hawaii!
First-time Flyer - Waconia, MN
As a private pilot working on my gyro add-on, I couldn't have asked for a better instructor. Caylon's knowledge, patience, and attention to detail really stood out. Fly Gyros Hawaii runs a tight, professional operation.

This was a birthday gift from my wife - and it was unforgettable. The flight felt safe but thrilling. I even got to fly the gyro myself for a bit. If you're looking for something unique to do on the Big Island, this is it.
First-time Flyer - Kent, WA
With over 3,000 hours in fixed-wing aircraft, I wasn’t sure what to expect in a gyroplane. It blew me away. Caylon’s instruction was top-notch, and the aircraft was impeccably maintained. I left impressed — and wanting more rotor time. I’m already looking for a gyro school near me to get my add-on rating.

As a 40+ year fixed wing pilot with experience in ultralights, LSAs and complex, high performance aircraft, I found Caylon Hackler at Fly Gyros Hawaii to be a competent rotorcraft instructor. His MTO sport was meticulously maintained, and his emphasis on safety was superb. Highly recommended.
